Silvia Careddu's remarkable career began with a resounding victory at the 56th Concours International de Musique de Genève, where she won both the First Prize unanimously, and the Audience Prize. This prestigious win led to an invitation from Lorin Maazel to become the Principal Flutist for his newly founded Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini. Silvia went on to hold the same distinguished position with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Wiener Symphoniker, and the Wiener Philharmoniker – Wiener Staatsoper. Since 2021, she has been the Principal Flutist of the Orchestre National de France in Paris.

Silvia has also served as guest principal flutist with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In 2012, she became an artistic partner of the Kammerakademie Potsdam, which won the Opus Prize for the best German orchestra in 2015 and 2022. Silvia is a founding member of the Alban Berg Ensemble Wien, a versatile chamber music group with recordings under Deutsche Grammophon and Decca.

A frequent soloist and chamber music partner at major festivals, Silvia has performed at Schleswig Holstein, Salzburg Festspiel, Austrian Flute Festival, Quingdao China (International Flute Festival), Cartagena, Festival des Arcs, Bürgenstock Festival, Australian National Academy for Music, Festival de Pollenca, Festival de Salon, Musiktage Mondsee, Festival Berlioz, Riva del Garda, Hitzacker Festival, Flautissimo, Festival de Colmar, Styriarte, and Patmos Chamber Music Festival, and innumerable other important festivals and events.

Silvia is a Professor at the Zürich Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK), she also teaches in London at the Royal Academy of Music as a Visiting Professor and at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. From 2011 to 2021, she taught at the “Hanns Eisler” Hochschule für Musik and the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin, and has also previously taught at the École Normale de Musique A. Cortot in Paris. She regularly conducts masterclasses across Asia, Europe and the USA.

As a respected figure in the music community, Silvia participates on the juries of significant international competitions, including the Concours de Musique de Genève, the A. Nicolet Competition, the Premio Abbado, the Concours M. Larrieu, the Crusell International Competition, and the Prague Spring International Competition.

Born in Cagliari, Italy, Silvia studied at the Conservatoire de Musique et de Danse de Paris, graduating with distinction. Her artistry has been shaped by the teachings of A. Nicolet, R. Ghiani, R. Guiot, and F. Souchard, and  Emmanuel Pahud.
